Mexican authorities have stepped up military operations against one of the country’s most powerful criminal organizations after a major security action this week. The Mexican Army carried out a significant operation in the state of Jalisco, during which Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes — also known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) — was killed.
This cartel has long been one of the most violent and influential drug trafficking groups in Mexico, involved in fentanyl and other illegal trades both domestically and internationally.
The military action triggered violent reactions from cartel elements in several regions. In some states like Jalisco and Michoacán, there have been reports of road blockades, burning vehicles and clashes with security forces as cartel members resist the authorities.
Mexican officials are continuing heightened security operations across multiple states and urging civilians to stay informed and safe as the situation unfolds.
